New bridges at China Creek
Robert Gunn, of the Alberni Valley Outdoor Club (AVOC) and new VISTA board member, sends us this update about new bridges across China Creek in the Port Alberni area, along the route of the VI Spine Trail. The bridges were constructed by the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and co-funded by the Island Coastal Economic Trust.
The bridge enables hikers to connect two popular trails, the Alberni Inlet Trail and the Historic CNPR Trail.
The third photo shows a tributary stream “that is nearly dry in summer and a mile wide after any rain.” The AVOC is planning some work there for August to facilitate crossing.
UPDATE: The bridges are NOT OPEN as of this date, as some work remains to be done by the Regional District. They are located on private property, and public access will not be granted until all work is complete and safety signage is installed.
