Decommissioning of the Englewood Logging Railway
Western Forest Products recently released their plans for the decommissioning, i.e. removal of rails and associated infrastructure, of the logging railway system in the Nimpkish valley of north Vancouver Island. For details, take a look at the pdf available at: https://www.northislandpag.com/uploads/2/3/1/2/23122048/rail_decommissioning_info_sheet_june_2019.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1s5si9tKmO7LxpdX1nbsfAieG9aN8TKudoY5fJzatwlRkHnZEGtOyfKjM Hikers should be sure to stay clear of any on-going work activities over the next year or so. Following completion of this work, VITA will approach WFP with a view to using sections of the old grade for part of the VI Trail. This initiative will require gaining permission and support of the ‘Namgis First Nation since the route is located across their traditional territory.
